Tucson Loop e-bike popularity continues to grow!
Yes! Electric bikes (e-bikes) are very popular on The Tucson Loop. As long as they are pedal assist, e-bikes are legal on The Tucson Loop . More than 25 percent of Tucson Loop bicycle traffic is pedal assist.
Gas powered or any motorized bike that doesn’t require pedaling is illegal and will be ticketed by Tucson Police. The Marana and Oro Valley sections of The Tucson Loop are legal for pedal assist electric bikes. While Pima County had rules against electric/ebike usage on The Loop, Tucson authorities have decided to allow pedal assist e-bikes on The Tucson 55 mile portion of The Tucson Loop.
Bart Johnson, tour director for Tucson Loop Bike Rentals, says Tucson Loop e-bike (electric bike) rentals are up 50 percent since 2020.
“People of all ages and abilities are enjoying riding basic hybrid bikes and e-bikes on our incredible Tucson Loop,” he says. “Electric bike rentals are rapidly increasing among cyclists of all ages.”
Tucson Loop Bike Rentals is a top Tucson Loop electric/e-bike provider for The Tucson Loop shared use bike path. They rent Trek, Specialized, Giant and Rad City e-bikes at their Rillito (Central) and Northwest Tucson Loop by appointment locations. They offer e-bike rentals at their Rillito River Loop locker location by appointment as early as 5:30 AM with return of rental bikes as late as 9 PM.
BikeArizona.org, ambassador Jim Howard says e-bikes on The Tucson Loop has risen by over 20 percent in the last three years.
“We have noticed a significant increase in electric bike usage by cyclists of all ages on The Loop,” says Howard, an engineer at Raytheon. “Accidents have been minimal and The Loop is a fantastic place for cyclists, roller bladers and walkers.
